A good green smoothie for kids is a great nutritional booster! It’s easy to make, has tons of nutrients, and is easy to take on the go.
That said, I’ve wasted a lot of good ingredients on smoothies that my kids don’t end up drinking. Don’t let that happen to you!
In today’s article I’m going to share with you the best green smoothie for kids, along with some of the benefits of green smoothies, and a no-fail green smoothie formula that you can use to make your own variations.

Why are green smoothies great for kids?
As a mom, I love serving green smoothies because it makes me feel like I’ve given my kids some real nutrition, regardless of what else they eat that day.
Packed with whole, real food, smoothies are a great alternative to other grab-n-go snacks you might be used to. I love using a cup like this to keep the smoothie cold and make it easy to drink on the go.
Also, smoothies are the easiest place I’ve found to sneak in extra nutritious items like chia seeds and MCT oil, which you’ll see in the recipe below. Other great add-ins include:
- Ground flax seeds
- Almond butter
- More milk or almond milk
- Elderberry or other liquid supplements
A strong blender will help you make this really quickly, too! I love my Vitamix because you can easily clean it by just blending soap and water after making your smoothie.
But there are tons of great options out there including: the Ninja blender, Blendtec, and the Nutribullet if you’re looking for something small.
I know that there are plenty of parents out there who love green smoothies as a means of hiding things their kids wouldn’t normally eat, but I actually LOVE making a bright green smoothie, like this one. Not only are the bright green smoothies so vibrant, but they actually show kids that there are greens in them and can help them learn to like them.
When vegetables are hidden, they add nutrition, but they don’t teach kids that things they might not normally eat can taste good.
But with this green smoothie for kids, the bright green color is visible right up front, hence why I often call this a Hulk or Shrek smoothie to make it a little more fun!
Can you make green smoothies for kids ahead of time?
I find that smoothies taste best the day that you make them, but in a pinch you can make green smoothies a couple days ahead of time and store them in a big batch in the fridge.
I like to store mine in a quart-sized mason jar and then just shake it up before serving to get everything mixed back together.

I call this the best green smoothie for kids because not only does it taste great, but it also is packed with loads of nutrition that will keep your kids fueled and energized.

- If you add MCT oil, you get some fast burning healthy fats

Tropical Green Smoothie for Kids
Equipment
- Blender
Ingredients
- 2 large handfuls spinach
- 1 large banana
- 1/2 cup frozen mango
- 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
- 1 cup coconut water (add more as needed)
- 1 Tbsp chia seeds (optional)
- 1 Tbsp MCT oil (optional)
Instructions
- Place everything in blender with the spinach closest to the blade. Blend until the ingredients are fully combined.

- 1/2 cup liquid (almond milk, milk, orange juice) – add more as needed
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 cup frozen fruit
- Add ins like: maca powder, chia seeds, protein powder, etc.
