It’s not easy to undertake a strict diet when you’re cooking for yourself AND a family. Maybe your partner has decided to follow the ketogenic diet trend and is looking to eat more fat and fewer carbs. Not to worry! You can use these great low carb family dinner recipes.
After all, cooking something separate for everyone isn’t sustainable. Not to mention, many keto recipes are feature whole, unprocessed ingredients with tons of veggies. So not only are they low carb and high fat, but they’re nourishing and wholesome too!
What is the ketogenic diet anyways?
The keto diet is a low carb, high fat program that many people are finding results from. Some benefits include weight loss, sustained energy, and long-term benefits for certain medical conditions.

Feed Kids and Parents Alike
Here are some great keto recipes that we’ve found over the past year of supporting a family member doing keto. They really will work for the whole family (perhaps with a few modifications).
Note: As I mentioned in the video above, I am not suggesting that you put your kids on a ketogenic diet. While there are some medical reasons for that, they are beyond the scope of this blog post. That said, these are healthy fat heavy meals that could be great for kids, especially if these or their other meals are supplemented with wholesome carbs for energy and growing brains.
Tried and Loved Low Carb Family Dinner Recipes
Shake n Bake Chicken: This recipe is so fantastic, I feed it to my non-keto family and friends on the regular. It’s super flavorful, gluten-free, and doesn’t have any of the funky ingredients you’d find in the packaged mix. I cut back a little on the seasoning based on what I have on hand and you should feel free to too!
The Ultimate Keto Buns: These are seriously easy to make (I use the blender) and store well in the freezer. Use them like bagels with salmon and smoked cream cheese, for sandwiches, or on the side of your soup for a complete dinner. I love that these are gluten-free and made with unprocessed ingredients like almond flour.
Almond Flour Waffles: We’ve made these waffles at least 5 times and store them in the freezer. Heat them in the toaster oven when you’re ready to serve. Keto adults can enjoy with nut butter but my kiddos love them with fruit and maple syrup. You can’t beat breakfast for dinner!
Tuna Noodle Casserole: This cabbage-based tuna dish with creamy parmesan sauce is easy to make and was a hit with everyone from my grandma to my 9 month old. This is better than any tuna noodle casserole you’ve ever had – pinky swear – plus it’s gluten-free and veggie packed.
Cauliflower Rice Paella: All the flavors of paella with more veggies and fewer carbs. Frozen cauliflower rice is an easy way to make this quickly any night of the week.
Keto Low Carb Chili (Crockpot or Instant Pot): This chili is so delicious no one will know that it’s keto. It’s not too spicy for the kids, it keeps well, and it’s super fast to make in the Instant Pot. Serve it over cauliflower rice and you have a complete meal!
Mississipi Pot Roast: This tangy, hearty roast recipe is going viral all over the place! We love this keto version which replaces ranch dressing packets with dried herbs. This one is almost completely hands-off. Serve it on the keto buns above and with a salad and you’re good to go.
Instant Pot Buffalo Chicken: The mason jar salad version of this recipe is keto friendly, but you could also serve the chicken and yogurt blue cheese dressing on top of celery or on the keto buns.
